Walmart, CVS, Best Buy, GMAC Among 8 Major Companies To Pull Ads From Glenn Beck Show

Walmart, Best Buy, CVS, and GMAC are among eight major advertisers that have confirmed pulling their advertising from Fox News' "Glenn Beck" program in light of his comments that President Obama is a racist.

The advertisers did not pull their spots from Fox News, but rather requested that their ads do not air during Beck's 5PM program.

The advertisers in the latest round of pull-out from Beck's show and their statements to ColorOfChange.org:

  • Allergan (maker of Restasis): "We reviewed our commercial schedule, and based on your feedback, we've put any programming featuring Glenn Beck on our "do not air" list. This means that you will no longer see any Restasis ads during programming featuring Glenn Beck. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention."
  • Ally Bank (a unit of GMAC Financial Services): "Ally advertises on a broad spectrum of programs to reach our potential customers. Our advertising is not an endorsement of editorial content on any program. We have ceased to advertise on the Glenn Beck program."
  • Best Buy
  • Broadview Security: "Given the considerations, we have requested of Fox News not to include us in the rotation that would have our commercials running on Glenn Beck's show."
  • CVS: "While advertising on Fox is part of our communication plan, we had not requested time on Glenn Beck's show specifically. We have instructed our advertising agency to inform Fox to ensure Glenn Beck's program is not part of our advertising plan."
  • Re-Bath: "...We are no longer airing our commercials on the Glenn Beck Show..."
  • Travelocity: "We did not specifically place our ad on the show. We buy ads in bulk and then they are placed somewhat randomly. However, we have now specifically asked that our ads do not appear during this show."
  • Wal-Mart: "Walmart today confirmed the retailer pulled ads from the Glenn Beck show on August 3rd,"

These companies join a growing list of advertisers to pull their ads from Beck's show, including ConAgra, GEICO, Lawyers.com, Men's Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Roche, SC Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance.

Obama is a great public speaker. Usually.

Barack Obama is the man, there is no question about it.  I'm not talking about his political points, his agendas, or even his ideology.  What I love about Barack Obama is that he conveys intelligence, clairvoyance, and strength as a leader.  That last guy... what was his name again?  Oh yeah... Bush.

Well, it turns out even a guy as polished as Barack Obama has a few Bushisms to let loose and wreak havoc upon the general public with.  Watch this clip from the Daily Show...

The young girl in the audience raised an excellent point, except I would have modified the question slightly, to 'how can "ANYONE" [not just kids] know what to believe', since it seems quite obvious that Fox News and the Republican Neocons have been successfully parading the ignorant into debates that are chalk-full of blatant misinformation and propaganda -- perfectly OK, according to them, as long as it's in the name of politics. Le sigh. :|

Fashion extravagence? Or a sign of the times… you decide.

Fashion these days is quite bizarre.  Scientists postulate that it is essentially a wild hybridization of new-wave, 80s nostalgia, pop, punk, techno-jive, annoying neon, cybergoth, and clown-wear.  I don't feel the need to say much more about it... it generally speaks (loudly) for itself.

But then I came across these, and I immediately knew I could not leave fashion out of my blog any longer:

Behold, the greatest pair of Adidas shoes on the planet, courtesy of Brooklyn (obvious) fashion designer Jeremy Scott.  If you know where to find a pair of these, please leave us a comment... so we know which building to incinerate.

Bill Maher: New Rule: A-hole in One Shouldn’t Be Obama’s Game

Bill Maher: New Rule: A-hole in One Shouldn't Be Obama's Game

New Rule: President Obama must give up that awful habit that sets such a bad example for young people. I'm talking, of course ... about golf.

Golf, if you're not familiar, is a pastime where you basically walk outdoors with a bag, muttering and cursing. It's like being homeless in loud pants. Anyway, Time magazine is reporting that since he became president, Barack Obama has taken up golf with a passion, playing almost every weekend for the past few months -- and I feel betrayed. He campaigned as a basketball player. It said to us, "I'm urban and athletic and hip and a team player." Golf says, "I like Lipitor and white collar crime." And it's not just golf -- he's been purposefully eating a lot of hamburgers in public lately, to prove he loves meat. And he said that, unlike before he became president, he prays all the time now and that his Faith and Neighbor Initiatives Director sends him scripture on his Blackberry to start every day. Jesus, is there something about that house that turns people into assholes?

Dyyno: Drag-and-Drop Video Streaming

Dyyno: Drag-and-Drop P2P Video Streaming | Epicenter | Wired.com

It’s hard to imagine a simpler way to stream video from your computer to the web than Dyyno, whose creators hope to disrupt the video market with their dirt-simple peer-to-peer video streaming service. Once the Windows application is running, dragging the “d” icon (screenshot to the right) onto any active window starts streaming that window through a Flash player at static Dyyno URL (for example, I can use it to share any window on my Windows computer at mychannel.dyyno.com/wired).
